Artist - Paintings, Sketches, Commisions
Karen's Artwork is mainly Landscapes / Seascapes/ Buildings, with the occasional portrait. Her Paintings are mainly inspired by a love of the sea/sailing, living near the Hampshire UK coast and from dog walking out in the fresh sea and countryside air. She enjoys some Plein Air paintings at historic buildings/countryside and whilst onboard boats in and around the Solent. Appropriately enough one of her favourite mediums is Watercolour. Karen loves the feel and fluidity of watercolour paint to soften and colour a scene. Frequently using permanent pens to sketch to commit and be more spontaneous then adding watercolour due to love of colour and how the subtly of watercolour softens the scene and adds richness and contrast. Karen also uses Acrylics - for example for the 1 hour Guinness Word Record Portrait painting of Sir Lenny Henry Oct '23. Painting and sketching are one of her personal therapy practices after previously suffering from re-occurring complex PTSD. Sketching / painting a natural land/seascape helps to destress / creates a sense of calm, with the positive butterfly happy high when she feel its going really well.
